Going up a level
- You level up by raising your skills. Each time a skill goes up, its new level counts toward your next character level.
- Each level needs 75 plus 25 for every level you already have: 100 to reach level 2, 325 from 10 to 11, 825 from 30 to 31.
- Each level gives 10 to health, magicka or stamina, your pick. Picking stamina also gives 5 carry weight.
- Each level gives one perk point. That number is written into the game's program: no setting in GTS changes it. A perk rank costs one point. See how they add up on Perk trees.
- Survival Mode is on from the start in GTS, so you level up only when you sleep in a bed. See Survival.

The skills
Lockpicking becomes Hand to Hand, from the Hand to Hand mod: Hand to Hand is the art of fighting with fist and claw. Those who are skilled in Hand to Hand can face armed opponents without a weapon.
Pickpocket becomes Security, from the Hand to Hand mod: Security is the art of opening locks and picking pockets. Those who are skilled in Security can find hidden treasures, disarm an unaware target, and silently poison their foes.
Every other skill gains as much from each use as in Skyrim. Two mods add to that: disenchanting a weapon gives 15 times the usual Enchanting experience (Thaumaturgy), and scrolls and staves give experience too (Scrambled Bugs).
A skill at 100 can be made legendary: it drops to 75 (Skyrim's own drops it to 15) and you get its perk points back to spend again.
More perk points
- The Oghma Infinium, after Discerning the Transmundane (you get it in Septimus Signus' Outpost): pick one of its three sections, each gives 2 perk points and a lasting bonus. You can read it once.
- The Meditation Stone near High Hrothgar: 5 dragon souls buy 1 perk point. It also opens the Thu'um skill tree.
- The Black Book in Apocrypha (Dragonborn): spend 1 dragon soul to take back the perks in one skill and get their points to spend again. A few perks other mods add aren't on the book's list, Mystical Materials among them, and stay.
- Fast Learner, a trait you can pick at the start: you learn faster and a lesson costs less (the part that grows with your skill is halved; see Trainers), but every fifth level gives no perk point. See Traits.
- A few quest mods hand out some too: a potion and a converter in VIGILANT, a potion in DAC0DA, 3 points in Val Serano's quests, and 1 for attending the awards in Vittoria's Alternate Wedding.
Skill trees with their own points
Some trees don't use the perk points your levels give. Their points come from the tree itself:
- Werebear (Berserkyr): new perks after enough kills.
- Lichdom (Prelude to Purgatory).
- The survival skills: see Survival.
The Thu'um tree (Stormcrown) spends your own perk points. Every perk is listed in Perks.
From base GTS 118's own files: the game settings, the skills' records, and the scripts that give perk points, each read when this page is built. Your own add-ons can change any of this; they aren't counted here.
