Werewolves have their own page.
Becoming a vampire
Vampires can give you Sanguinare Vampiris, a disease that costs 25 health. Three days later it turns you into a vampire, unless you cure it first: Cure Disease works while it's still the disease.
Cured for good by Rising at Dawn. Becoming a Vampire Lord comes with Dawnguard (Bloodline); its perks are in Perks.
The four stages
A vampire who doesn't feed gets worse: a stage further once a day has passed since you last fed, then two days, then three. Feeding takes you back one stage at a time, not all the way. At Feral, people attack you on sight.
At every stage you can't catch diseases, poisons don't hurt you and you can breathe underwater.
| Stage | Days unfed | Frost resistance | Fire weakness | Sunlight also takes | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sated | fed | 50% | 50% | – | Vampire's Seduction |
| Thirsting | 1 | 50% | 50% | 25 magicka, 25 stamina | Embrace of Shadows |
| Ravenous | 2 | 100% | 100% | 25 health, 25 magicka, 25 stamina | Champion of the Night |
| Feral | 3 | 100% | 100% | 50 health, 50 magicka, 50 stamina | Reign of Terror |
Out in the sun, between 5 in the morning and 7 in the evening, your health, magicka and stamina stop coming back at every stage; from Thirsting on, the sun also takes the points in the table off them. Indoors, at night and during Dawnguard's eclipse it doesn't.
Feeding
- On someone asleep, as in Skyrim. With Vampire Feeding Tweaks, biting a sleeper also takes 40% of their health.
- Feed on someone who's bleeding out in a fight, with your weapon or spell out.
- Feed while sneaking, on someone awake who can't see you and isn't fighting: it works 9 times in 10, hurts them by your level times 35 (more the thirstier you are: 35, 40, 45, 50), and starts a fight. Otherwise they shove you off.
- Sip from a fresh body, once each: 1 time in 5 it counts as feeding, otherwise it gives back 25 health.
Feed, bite and sip show while you hold Dynamic Activation Key's key (sleepers, sneak bites and bodies); the bleeding-out bite shows with your weapon out.

People the records alone don't show:
- Lord Harkon: head of the Volkihar vampires. His record is a plain Nord with the vampire mark and vampire powers. He becomes a Vampire Lord when he offers you his gift, and in the final battle he is a separate Vampire Lord record.
- Serana: a vampire whose record is a plain Nord. The game marks her as a vampire through a quest that runs from the start; if you have her cured, that mark, her vampire factions and her vampire powers are taken away.
- Dawnguard's disguised vampires: the Visiting Advisor, Traveling Pilgrim, Traveling Merchant and Traveling Bard look like ordinary Nords but are marked as vampires. The Visiting Advisor turns up in A Jarl's Justice.
- People you can turn yourself: as a Volkihar vampire, Vingalmo can ask you to turn your spouse (The Gift) or one of Haran, Cairine or Valindor (New Allegiances). The spouse must have one of the common voices and must not be Aela, Farkas or Vilkas. Once turned they get the vampire version of their race.
- Tedril Vandram (Windhelm SSE): a Dark Elf on his record, but in the vampire faction and with a vampire's powers, sunlight weakness included. He lacks the vampire mark, so things that check for it don't count him.
- Named vampire bosses of Hammet's dungeons: Lord Bahliel (Dreadmere), Lord Elheron, Tolggor Swarm Bringer and the Gate Keeper (Bloodiron), and Neryon (Brimspire). Their records take their race from a leveled vampire list, so in play they are true vampires: Dark Elf vampires (Bahliel, Elheron, Neryon), an Imperial vampire (Tolggor), and a vampire of any race (the Gate Keeper).
- Porter (Bloodchill Manor): a named ambusher whose race is drawn from the leveled vampire list, so in play he is a true vampire of a random race.
- VIGILANT's blood creatures (Bloodfiend, Bloodknight, Bloodlich, Blood Feral, Blood Brute, Blood Mage, the Bloodknight Lord, the Nightmare of Ilinalta and Facis the merchant): monsters on races the mod names after vampires (feral, troll, lich and were vampires), most of them serving Molag Bal. Their races don't carry the vampire mark, so wherever the game checks for that mark it does not count them as vampires.
- VIGILANT's Minotaur Vampires: minotaurs on an undead minotaur race that also lacks the vampire mark.
Vampire mark only, or vampire in name only:
- Dumzbthar, the Dwarven Sentinels and the Dwarven Commander (Lucien): undead-looking Dwemer warriors on a race labelled Nord that carries the vampire mark and a vampire's racial powers. So anything that checks for the mark treats them as vampires, but they have no weakness to sunlight, no feeding and no vampire faction.
- Knights of Order (Saints and Seducers): Jyggalag's crystal soldiers, not vampires. Their race carries the vampire and undead marks with no vampire powers at all.
- Fangtusk (the fishing Creation): a vampire horker by its race's name only. Its race does not carry the vampire mark; it is a horker with a draining cloak.
- In the vampire faction only, as allies: Bloodiron's guardians (atronachs Nomeg Hynar and Zymel Olnir, Zelris the Tormentor, the Shadow of Lady Greybane, Dremora and skeletons), Grievous Twilight (a Daedra in Lucien), the Fiendroth Beetle and 3DNPC's Death Wolves. None of them is a vampire.
Vampires you meet as enemies: Ancient Vampire, Blooded Vampire, Exiled Volkihar Warlord, Feral Vampire, Frozen Vampire Falmer, Headless Vampire, Laelette the Vampire, Master Vampire, Master Vampire Matriarch, Master Vampire Patriarch, Nightlord Vampire, Nightmaster Vampire, Vampire, Vampire Court Member, Vampire Fledgling, Vampire Matriarch, Vampire Mistwalker, Vampire Naturalist, Vampire Nightstalker, Vampire Patriarch, Vampire Thrall, Volkihar Exile, Volkihar Master Vampire, Volkihar Vampire.
From base GTS 118's own files: the stage spells, the vampire quest's own settings, and the scripts that run it (GTS's patched copies where it has them), read when this page is built. Your own add-ons can change any of this; they aren't counted here.
