The Companions 4
- The Silver Hand at stage 30
Skjor dies in this quest, killed by the Silver Hand. - Blood's Honor at stage 30
Kodlak is killed when the Silver Hand raids Jorrvaskr. - Blood's Honor at stage 30
Eorlund's offer of a free Skyforge Steel weapon ends at that same raid: take it before then. - Glory of the Dead at stage 200
If Vilkas becomes Harbinger, you get neither the Harbinger title nor that rank-up.
College of Winterhold 2
- Revealing the Unseen at stage 30
Gavros Plinius dies once he has told you where to find Paratus. Paratus himself is no longer protected after he has helped you, so he can die from then on. - The Staff of Magnus at stage 0
Savos Aren is gone for good from the start of this quest: the game takes him out of the College, so whatever he offered ends with Containment.
The Thieves Guild 8
- Taking Care of Business at stage 20
From the moment you take the job the three debtors and Drifa can be killed. A dead debtor counts against you: Brynjolf still takes the 300 but gives no potions. - Dampened Spirits at stage 110
Killing Sabjorn or Mallus loses Maven's weapon and doubles the guild jobs needed before Scoundrel's Folly (the menu's default of 20 becomes 40). - Scoundrel's Folly at stage 40
Gulum-Ei can be killed from the chase on. Killing him loses Tonilia's armour upgrade for good. - Darkness Returns at stage 10
Tell Vigilant Tarelon to get out of your way when he first stops you, or keep the Key when he asks for it after the quest, and he attacks you and can be killed. Restore the Light can then never be finished: the vow to destroy the Key isn't offered at Nocturnal, and Nocturnal's Curse, if you got it, stays. - Darkness Returns at stage 30
If you no longer have the Key when you see Vigilant Tarelon, Restore the Light fails. - Darkness Returns at stage 56
Keeping or destroying the Key turns Karliah against you: she can be killed and attacks you. - Darkness Returns at stage 56
Any ending other than returning the Key gives back the Skeleton Key's never-break perk (it works while the Key is in your pack) but also puts Nocturnal's Curse on you (Security and Sneak lowered by 20). Only Restore the Light lifts it, and only if you agreed to Vigilant Tarelon's plan when he stopped you on the way: give him the Key afterwards, or tell him you destroyed it in the Aetherium Forge. - Destroy the Thieves Guild at stage 100
Starting the raid ends the Thieves Guild for you for good: you are thrown out and made its enemy, every guild quest still running stops, the guild's fences stop fencing, Brynjolf and Delvin are taken away, and Karliah waits at Nightingale Hall as an enemy who can be killed. If you never took the Nightingale armour, its stone goes and the chest that takes its place holds only gold and ordinary loot in GTS, so the armour is lost. If you never had the Nightingale Blade or Bow, Karliah carries them; a Skeleton Key you never had waits in Riftweald Manor.
The Dark Brotherhood 6
- With Friends Like These... at stage 220
Kill Astrid in the shack instead and this quest fails: the Dark Brotherhood questline ends, and Destroy the Dark Brotherhood! starts. - Mourning Never Comes at stage 50
Killing Nilsine also costs Tova Shatter-Shield her life: she is found dead afterwards. - Death Incarnate at stage 10
The Falkreath Sanctuary burns and most of the family dies in the attack. - Death Incarnate at stage 70
Astrid has to die here; the quest asks you to kill her. - Destroy the Dark Brotherhood! at stage 30
Raiding the Sanctuary means the family there can die (Babette is already gone), and you are no longer one of them. - Destroy the Dark Brotherhood! at stage 199
Refuse Maro's job and the quest fails, and he thinks less of you.
Dawnguard 4
- Bloodline at stage 40
Accepting also cures lycanthropy: if you carry the Companions' beast blood, the gift takes it away. - Kindred Judgment at stage 60
Dawnguard side: the moment the fight with Harkon starts, every vampire of his court still standing is killed: Fura Bloodmouth, Feran Sadri, Garan Marethi, Rargal Thrall-Master, Vingalmo, Orthjolf, Ronthil, Hestla, Salonia, Stalf, Modhna, Namasur and the two death hounds. Their trade, training and radiant work are gone. - The Bloodstone Chalice any time
From here on you are one of Harkon's vampires, and the Dawnguard treat you as an enemy: Isran, Sorine, Gunmar, Florentius and the rest of Fort Dawnguard will fight you, so their training, trade, crossbow lessons, troll and radiant work are closed to you. - The Bloodstone Chalice any time
Volkihar side: at Redwater Den two of the court's vampires, Stalf and Salonia, turn on you, and their blood is what the chalice needs, so both die in this quest.
The Civil War 5
- Message to Whiterun any time
On that path Vignar Gray-Mane is taken out of the Stormcloak government, so he does not become Jarl. - Battle for Solitude or Battle for Windhelm at stage 320
Ulfric or Tullius, whoever loses, is killed. - Battle for Solitude or Battle for Windhelm at stage 340
If the Legion takes Windhelm, Brunwulf Free-Winter becomes its Jarl, and his bandit-leader errand (Kill the Bandit Leader) is withdrawn if you hadn't started it. - Choosing a side in the Civil War any time
Swearing the oath to one side closes the other: the other side's joining quest fails, both introductions end, and you are taken out of the other army. - The other Civil War missions any time
In the Last Battle mission the enemy field commander loses his protection and is killed.
VIGILANT 11
- The Eye of Madness at stage 22
Don't kill Anton: he reappears in Thus Spoke Khajiit with a third staff, and if he's dead that offer never comes. - The Eye of Madness at stage 30
Balor can't be saved: Altano won't let you go on as a Vigilant unless he dies, refusing just gets the same demand again, and Balor himself turns down any mercy you offer. - Old Regrets at stage 0
The three ordinary Vigilants of Stendarr who stand at Stendarr's Beacon in the base game are removed as this quest starts; you find the tower's people dead. - Old Regrets at stage 60
Vigilant Jacob dies in this quest whatever you do. - No Mercy any time
The two routes don't meet again: The Endless Fall and The Landing only follow the first two outcomes, Art of Mercy only the last. - The Endless Fall at stage 0
Back at the temple Altano has turned: his dremora has killed the Vigilants there, Keeper Thorondir is gone, and only Gwyneth survives. You also carry the Curse of Stendarr (Stamina regenerates far slower) until you reach the altar. - The Endless Fall any time
Careful in that side quest: if you spare the witch when she begs, she comes back and kills five of Ivarstead's people (Lynly, Jofthor, Klimmek, Wilhelm and Gwilin), and you lose 6 Karma. - The Endless Fall any time
Altano doesn't survive this route: Molag Bal strikes him down at the altar, and what comes back of him dies in The Landing. - Empty Cells at stage 255
Give in to Lamae in The Blood Matron and this quest closes without the 2,000 gold, the new Vigilants or Facis, and Gwyneth leaves the temple. - Successor at stage 0
Starting over closes the side quest The Witch of Ivarstead for good. - Aetherius at stage 8
Alessia dies during the quest, whatever you do; her death adds 3 Karma.
The Main Quest 6
- Diplomatic Immunity at stage 220
Once you and Malborn are caught and escape through the dungeon, he is no longer protected and can die. - The Fallen at stage 10
When this quest starts, Delphine and Esbern turn against Paarthurnax: they drop to neutral with you and you are no longer one of the Blades until that is settled in the quest Paarthurnax. - The Fallen at stage 10
Once the Blades turn on Paarthurnax he is no longer protected and can be killed. If you kill him, Arngeir rebukes you and thinks far less of you, on top of you losing your place with the Greybeards. - Paarthurnax at stage 10
Until you deal with this, the Blades throw you out: Delphine and Esbern drop to strangers and you are no longer one of them. Paarthurnax also loses his protection and can now be killed. - Paarthurnax at stage 50
Kill him instead and the Blades take you back, but the Greybeards stop counting you as one of their own and Arngeir thinks much less of you. - Season Unending at stage 290
If you give away too much to the other side, your own side throws you out: the game moves you to the other army at its lowest rank, gives you that army's sword, and the civil war objective you were on stops.
Solstheim 3
- The Gardener of Men at stage 750
Storn dies: the quest makes him mortal and then kills him. His belongings go to Frea, and he is removed from the world when the main quest ends. - At the Summit of Apocrypha at stage 550
Miraak is gone for good. When you leave, the dragon you rode is set free, and it, the fight's other dragons and Miraak are removed from the world. - Served Cold at stage 60
Once you report Tilisu, she and Mirri turn hostile and can be killed, and Vendil dies at Ashfallow Citadel.
Hearthfire 2
- Falkreath house at stage 12
That letter also takes Siddgeir off the Rare Gifts favour for good: he can never offer it after this, and if you were already doing it for him it ends. - Adoption any time
You can adopt two children at most. Adopting the second closes adoption for good: the orphanage, the street children and every other adoptable child stop offering.
Undeath 2
- The Path of Transcendence at stage 100
What you lose: Woe of Lichdom stops your Health regenerating and takes 100 off your Health (while adding 100 Magicka), and healing potions, food, ingredients and healing spells no longer heal you. Other potions work at half strength, and GTS's hardcore Undeath fixes also cut their duration to nothing, so potions with a lasting effect wear off at once. The quest calls the change permanent. - The Path of Transcendence at stage 100
Once you're a Lich, the ritual's recipes (the Phylactery, the elixir, the shrouds and the ritual reagents) can no longer be made.
Beyond Skyrim: Bruma 1
- Service Rewarded at stage 30
How you settled A Delicate Situation decides how Adius leaves: after one of its three endings he goes freely; after the other two, Thalmor agents take him, and he and Armion are gone for good while Bruma picks a new guard captain. The reward is the same either way.
Meridia's Order 14
- A Fate Worse Than Death at stage 100
This quest fails, and Fiya disappears, if you kill any of her people yourself (Kelrog, Alzacar, the Jester, Clarence, a Dremora guard, or Molag, which also breaks the realm), or if Alzacar or the Jester dies before her last order. So it can't be finished alongside the Jester's plot, which has you kill Kelrog yourself. - A New Day at stage 70
The traitor turns out to be Velteth, one of the Order: he turns on you and must die. - A Parting Gift at stage 40
If you killed Dario and own up to it, Valrar wants nothing more to do with you: no trading, cures or potions. - Champion's Choice at stage 51
Give him a careless reason for the killing and he keeps his distance: the quest still completes, but Asger won't become an ally. - Infiltration at stage 40
If you killed Dralos, Tahlani doubts your story: with Speech under 20, or the wrong answer, she raises the alarm, the whole Dark Dawn turns on you and you lose the robes and The Dark Dawn's tasks. - Infiltration at stage 60
Acolyte Kariss can't be saved: the Order is attacked while you're away and she is killed by the quest itself. - Stendarr's Mercy any time
Lose the truce talk and every Vigilant of Stendarr becomes hostile to you, not just the ones at the Beacon. - Stendarr's Mercy any time
Killing the leader, or refusing Laracin, leaves the Order and the Vigilants at war for good. Refusing also fails the quest, and Laracin stays cool towards you. - The Dark Dawn at stage 70
If you spared Idina, Reeshi finds out at the end and the quest fails: no room key and no chest. - The Dark Dawn any time
Don't open Reeshi's sealed letter: the courier, Crenstian, notices and attacks you. The task still counts as delivered. - The Dark Dawn any time
Finish its tasks before reporting back to Alara: ending Infiltration fails The Dark Dawn, and so does Reeshi's death. - The Jester, In The Bedroom, With The Knife at stage 60
If the realm comes down before you finish, the quest fails. - The Pocket Realm any time
Kill Kelrog yourself before Clarence gets the chance and his plan falls through, sweet roll and all. - The Ritual any time
Kill Fiya and you lose that letter and its spell tome.
Daedric quests 20
- A Daedra's Best Friend at stage 205
Barbas is gone either way once you decide: he goes back into Clavicus Vile, or you kill him. - Boethiah's Calling at stage 15
The person you lure onto the Pillar of Sacrifice must die by your hand, so do not bring anyone you want to keep. After the sacrifice the other cultists turn on you. - Boethiah's Calling at stage 300
Refusing outright costs you: you get Boethiah's Curse (health and stamina come back more slowly, about half as fast by its own description), a group of Dremora is sent after you, and the quest is over with no Ebony Mail. - Discerning the Transmundane at stage 50
Septimus Signus dies at the end: when he goes in to meet Mora he is killed. - Discerning the Transmundane any time
The book works once: after you pick a path it vanishes from your pack. - Ill Met By Moonlight at stage 100
On that path At Your Own Pace (Companions) also wakes up a group of Silver Hand who come after you. - Pieces of the Past at stage 150
Sparing Silus closes the Razor for good on this quest: Dagon rejects you and the altar pieces are taken away. - Reforging the Past any time
Forging the Razor (from Silus's copies or from the real pieces) fails Pieces of the Past: the Dagon ending is gone and the forged blade is swapped for the real Mehrunes' Razor. - The Black Star at stage 100
Whoever you pick likes you for it and the other turns against you: Aranea becomes an ally and Nelacar a rival, or the other way round. - The Cursed Tribe at stage 90
Yamarz does not survive: he turns on you after the giant falls, or Malacath disposes of him. - The Fate of the Ebony Blade at stage 30
Throwing it into the Aetherium Forge destroys the Ebony Blade for good. - The House of Horrors at stage 210
On Tyranus's side you get no Mace of Molag Bal. - The House of Horrors any time
On Molag Bal's way Tyranus has to die, and so does the priest Logrolf. - The Man in Black at stage 10
Taking Rudin's job removes Boethiah's cult from the Sacellum and marks Boethiah's Calling as done, so the game's own version (and the sacrifice) is gone for good. - The Only Cure any time
Break the altar after Peryite has spoken to you on your return, whether or not you took Spellbreaker, and he curses you: while you have Spellbreaker equipped it keeps hurting you with poison. - The Only Cure any time
Refusing Peryite fails the quest. Breaking his altar also ends the blessing that altar offers through Pilgrim. - The Taste of Death at stage 60
On the feast path Brother Verulus is killed and eaten. - The Whispering Door any time
If you warn Balgruuf instead of doing as Mephala asks, and agree to help him with the door, his servant Fianna is found killed. - The Whispering Door any time
If Nelkir dies, Balgruuf raises the alarm and Dragonsreach turns on you. - Waking Nightmare at stage 198
Wait too long and the skull is gone even if you then kill Erandur, so you lose both him and the skull.
Miscellaneous tasks 24
- A Strong Nord Woman at stage 150
If you fail to frighten Tythis and then back off, the task fails for good. - Ask Elina Iron-Heart more about her missing father at stage 500
If Lassinia dies before you take the job, this lead fails and Upon My Honor can't be started. - Beyond the Shores of Madness at stage 10
This memory starts when you touch the Spawn during The Nameless Bard, before playing the lute. Doing so removes the lute, so The Nameless Bard can no longer reach its true or bitter ending, nor the abilities and Stone-Fire they give. - Bring Lucien a Dragon Bone at stage 46
Bring him a dragon bone and he pays you 100 gold and likes you more. Refuse to fetch one and he likes you less, and the request is closed for good. - Caught Red Handed at stage 11
Siding with Haelga shuts out Svana's side of the task: no scroll from Haelga, no armour from Svana and no friendship with Svana. - Conspiracy of the Steps at stage 110
Tell him the real, lower number and he drinks poison and dies, which ends him for good. You can give that answer after counting the steps yourself or reading The Myth of the 7000 Steps, or with a Speech of 60 or more. - Conspiracy of the Steps at stage 200
Claim there are 7,000 steps without a Speech of 40 or the amulet and he doesn't believe you: the task fails, with no second try. - Convince Cerendil to drop the charges against Bentior at stage 18
Cerendil leaves Bruma for good once you tell him the guard won't charge Bentior. - Experimental Subject at stage 400
Turning him down ends the task with nothing, and he never offers it again. - Experimental Subject at stage 300
Turning him down ends the task with nothing, and he never offers it again. - Falion's Secret at stage 30
Reporting him costs you a Conjuration trainer: in GTS people who dislike you won't offer their services, so Falion won't train you after that. - Garr and Pallas any time
Pallas only asks for the blood while Dream of Ancients is unfinished; finish that quest first and the chance is gone for good. - Helping Hand any time
If Wujeeta dies before you finish, the task fails, The Raid never starts and Thane of Riften can never be had (no Supply and Demand without The Raid). - Investigate the Hall of the Dead at stage 60
If you go along with Eola and Verulus is killed at Namira's shrine before you've reported back to him, you can't collect the amulet. - Relic's Revival at stage 200
The wrong repair, or trying the careful fixes with neither the Dwarven Smithing perk nor a Smithing above 90, destroys the Relic and fails the task. - Restore the Light at stage 20
The Skeleton Key is destroyed for good. - Restore the Light any time
Refusing him, either when he first asks or when you come back with the Key, makes him attack you. He can be killed then, and his death fails the task. - Speak to Dar'taqto about charges against him at stage 100
Finish this before taking his bear pelt job and he never offers that job. - Speak to Reln-Tei about Renod Even-Toned at stage 200
If Renod or Reln-Tei dies before you agree, this lead fails and The Screeching Songman can't be started. - The Heart Will Go On any time
You can only carry one man's letter, and not while A Lovely Letter is running. If Faendal, Sven or Camilla dies, the task fails. - The Raid any time
If Wujeeta dies before The Raid is done, it fails and Thane of Riften can never be had: Supply and Demand, which the title needs, only starts when The Raid is finished. - Two Sisters at stage 20
Roxelle's sister Roza attacks you once you have talked to her, whichever answer you give, so she can't be brought home. - Under the Table at stage 200
Going to Indaryn gets Romlyn arrested: from then on he sleeps and spends his days in the jail. - Word to Bruma at stage 250
Kill Thorina in Against the Cutters before Hulgard has Avar's letter and this task fails for good, and Avar is gone.
Read from base GTS 118's own records (quest stages, their scripts and the dialogue that ends an offer), each item checked by a second reader. A stage is the quest's own number, as the console's getstage shows it. Your own add-ons can change any of this.
